Severe Back Pain, Digestive Issues During Pregnancy

I would like to talk about what a difference bodywork can make during pregnancy.

A while back, I saw a mama that was 35 weeks pregnant, and really needing help. She had a long history of back issues, and was in a lot of pain in her low back, with difficulty walking. As I talked with her, I also learned that she was having some reflux and gastroparesis– a condition that slows down your digestion so food is not moving properly through your digestive tract– which can cause discomfort and lack of appetite.

I did a gentle bodywork session, working with her pelvis, spine and head, as well as her stomach and digestive sphincters. I could feel the changes in her body, and noticed that she was walking more easily when she left.

A few hours later, this was the message I got from her:

“Hi Ariana! WOW! I cannot thank you enough!! It feels so good to have my hips aligned again! I didn’t know if it was possible before baby came.

I would have been thrilled with just that, but I’m truly in awe of my stomach right now! I just ate an entire meal and I’m still hungry. My stomach growled so loud the entire time I ate! It’s been so long that I’ve truly felt hungry, and it’s been a while since my stomach growled. I haven’t been able to eat much lately and was feeling so guilty on the days when I could only eat a couple of snacks. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!”

It was such a pleasure to help her, and I am just SO glad she sought help when she was in pain! I have helped many women with all kinds of challenges during their pregnancies.

Pregnancy can be hard enough, even when everything is going right. Extra pain or dysfunction makes it so exhausting! I love helping make it an easier, more joyful journey– if you would like some support, just ask! I am here to help.
