Lynn– Cesarean Scarring/ Adhesions, Pelvic Pain, Hormonal Imbalance

Lynn came to see me because she was aware that she had some extensive scarring and adhesions in her abdomen from cesarean births.

As I got to know her and her history during my intake interview, I was surprised to learn that she was only having periods twice per year. As we talked about that, she exclaimed that she was very glad they hardly ever came, since they were incredibly painful. She told me she would be totally fine if they stopped altogether.

While I could definitely understand why she would feel that way, I explained that our periods (and our cycles as a whole) are a very important gauge of overall health and should be considered a vital sign, just like blood pressure or heart rate. It’s important for women of childbearing age to be ovulating and menstruating regularly, even when we are not wanting to become pregnant.

We have been working on her pelvic adhesions and improving circulation in her pelvis, as well as working with her liver to improve her hormonal balance. (Did you know that the liver plays a HUGE role in hormone regulation? It is in charge of deciding which hormones go into circulation or get pulled out for disposal, so if your liver is overburdened, it has a hard time keeping up and regulating your hormones.) More recently, she also started taking an adaptogenic herb to help with hormonal balance.

The last time I saw Lynn, she let me know that her periods were now coming very regularly– they come every other month, but they are right on time on this new schedule. She said it’s been such a relief that her periods are no longer painful, so she can feel great knowing that her body is healthier overall (ovulating regularly) and she doesn’t dread them. Fingers crossed that she’ll see them monthly soon, but going from 2x a year of awfulness to every other month of a healthy, pain-free period is a HUGE win!

Of course, with the improvement of Lynn’s cycles has also come with more vibrant health and vitality! It’s so much fun to celebrate these really important changes with my clients.
